The Korea University College of Political Science and Economics plays the leading role among universities in Korea in all aspects: academic standards, accomplishments of its graduates, and initiator of student activities. The College has a deep-rooted tradition that traces back to the Specialized Department of Jurisprudence and the Specialized Department of Plutology, established along with Korea University in 1905, on which the College was founded. Since its establishment, the College has adapted and developed according to the changing times.
The College of Political Science and Economics grew to include five departments with the new establishment of the departments of Statistics and Mass Communication in 1963 and 1965 respectively, and when the Department of Public Administration moved from the College of Law to the College of Political Science and Economics. In 2002, the Department of Mass Communication migrated to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the College, now consisting of four departments, developed into the top college in Korea.
The four departments of the College of Political Science and Economics-- the departments of Political Science and international Relations, Economics, Statistics, and Public Administration-- deal with the pivotal academic disciplines in the social sciences. In addition, the College is comprised of the interdisciplinary majors of PEP (Politics, Economics and Policy), which is a preliminary law course, Law and Public Administration, and Financial Engineering. Moreover, the college is affiliated with research institutions, such as the Economic Research Institute, Asiatic Research Institute, Peace and Democracy Institute, Ilmin International Relations Institute (IIRI), Institute of Statistics, and Institute of Governmental Studies, that are contributing to scholastic research and education.
The outstanding graduates of these various educational programs are acting as talented individuals necessary to the nation, demonstrating excellent abilities and initiative in various fields of society.
